Isn't Gulmarg that village that has a 20,000 strong army garrison to protect 200 skiers/boarders from being kidnapped and beheaded and where apres ski consitutes drinking tea behind sandbags during artillery strikes.

For insurance, you should get in touch with this lot. It might be pricey though: http://www.bellwoodprestbury.com/products/

Gulmarg is reasonably safe wrt to crime, its the avalanche risk which is the main concern, the record there is intimidating. One of my work mates skis there almost every year, I don't know what insurance company he uses.

You can get insurance for just about anything, you just have to pay enough.

It has just occurred to me that the OP might want to bob an email to Whitelines. I'm sure they went over there a few seasons ago and would be able to point you in the direction of an insurer.

Guy in my work is going in a couple of months. When I asked him about insurance, he said something about the U.K. branch of the Austrian Mountaineering Club (or something similar?)

Looks like my US trip is being postponed for another year due to friends wanting to go to Gulmarg instead.

Getting some avalanche training and all the gear sorted but just wondered if you got the insurance sorted and if so, who did you go with in the end?
