As my first ever end of season blues starts to set in (Never before has daffodils blooming instilled such melancholy), I’m looking at where to head on holiday next January.

The budget’s going to be about £650-700 a head for the works, there’s going to be at least 6 going (all ‘can turn’) and everyone’s got their own kit. The only idea pitched so far’s been Valmeinier with Snowcoach, but I reckon for that kinda money we have a lot of options?

So ideas for somewhere to go please Smile:

Wide slopes with good lifts for nooby boarders
Probably somewhere not too crowded
Somewhere with a great view
There will also be a ski blade’er... Will need somewhere to lose her Smile
Don’t much care about nightlife, it’s all about riding!

Please let me know your thoughts!

We done Les Deux Alpes at Christmas for less than that. In January you should get some good deals for well with in your budget.
L2a was prettty good we had a really good week.

That depends what you are including in "the works":

Flights? Transfers? Full/Half Board? Lift pass? Lessons? Apres? Other activities?

If you include everything then it can get quite expensive even at the cheapest resorts.

Also how long are you planning to go for and what time of year?

Looking for a week in Jan. Just dag out a quote from snowcoach for 2 of us:

Coach & Hotel (3/4 board basis) - £458 x 2
6 day lift passes - £143 x 1, £40 x 1
**rental boards no longer required** 6 day snowboard - £77 x 2
**rental helmets no longer required** 6 day helmets - £10 x 2
Recommend n save discount - £25 x 2

Total - £1223

Is that going to be pretty hard to beat? I forgot my quote included rental! Same thing without the rentals would be £1049

We done l2a for that money for the Christmas week which is a peak week. That was flying from Manchester.
We done Mayrhofen staying the Strass Hotel for less than that, again flying from Manchester.
Loads of deals to be had if you look about. I have never booked that far in advance but i know i wouldn't want to do that long a coach trip.

Yeah, the coach trip would be a killer. Soon as my phone battery died I'd probably go insane and start making friends out of coconuts... Somehow my mates have managed it 2 years running now!

i'd say wait and find out the details of the scuk winter bash. it's always a LOT of fun and tends to cater for a broad range of budgets. it's normally held the last week of jan/first week of feb.

We did a week in Slovakia this season

225 accom
150 lift pass
50 transfer
175 flight inc board bag and airport parking. would have been cheaper if we booked earlier too
Food/drink
30euro a day x 6

Thats 780 all in and thats over budgetting for food/drink if you really dont want to eat and drink out and with Expensive flights as we left them late to book. Can also make it cheaper if you take a train not a transfer taxi.

The beauty of slovakia is once your there its as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. Lunch with a beer, meal out with a bottle of wine wont run you more than 20 euro a day. Theres always tesco and cooking facilities in propagnada who we stayed with too.

Would be very easy to do a week in slovakia for under 650 all in without eating noodles all week.

Check out www.skicourchevel.net

There's the option of a fully catered chalet or a self catered apartment in courchevel.

I've stayed in both and had an awesome time both times. Never spent more than £650 all inclusive, including flights and transfers (depending on time of year). A fantastic holiday for very little cash

Loads of piste for all abilities with easy access to meribel and VT as well.

If its all about the riding and you are not too fussed on crazy nightlife then i too would suggest Slovakia (jasna). The nightlife is what you make of it though, you can have a top night if you are with a good crew.
The riding is great (plenty easy and very reachable off-piste and tree runs along with empty groomers) , is super cheap, and has uncrowded modern lifts. A good lot to Stay with is ChaletSlovakia and i have also heard good things about the above mentioned Propaganda lot.

If only someone had written a big review about Slovakia... Wink

Jasná is certainly cheap and it does have a couple of nice big blues for beginners.

But the resort as a whole is pretty small and if you're not at the stage of riding off-piste or in the park then you may get a bit bored of hitting the same few runs.

Cheers for the replies, loads of options out there! The more I think about it, the more I reckon we’re just going to go for at least two weeks away Wink

Good to have something to look forward to, helps with the end of season blues!

Wicked review btw Graham Smile Yeah we're likely to do a kickers course before we go, but we're by no means park rats so same few blues could get dull.

Sorry, I feel as though I do that terrible thing of only coming on here twice a year to recommend the places I've been to, but I'd check out Burasnow (www.burasnow.com). Wife and I did a great week there last season for much less than your budget, including flights, transfers, passes, food and drink etc etc. Very, very good value for money compared to a lot of the other places around.
